Iditarod Musher and Yukon Quest Champion, Hugh Neff
Even though the 2nd graders are the ones who followed the Iditarod this year, we invited the Kindergarten and First Grade classes to join us for a special presentation by musher, Hugh Neff. Hugh lives in Tok, Alaska, and has finished as high as 5th place in the Iditarod and has one the Yukon Quest, a thousand-mile race between Alaska and Canada. In addition to racing numerous races all around Alaska, he also races in Norway. Hugh shared messages about the importance of reading, setting goals, persevering through problems, and treating others with respect. This was quite a treat for all of us!
Liza Dietzen, musher
Today we were treated to a special visit by Liza Dietzen and her lead dogs, Sapphire and Nymph. You will remember that earlier in the year, the students helped to make dog blankets for her dogs. Today she shared videos of her training and racing. She also demonstrated equipment that she needs for racing sled dogs, using some very adorable models. You can tell how much the students enjoyed the visit today!
